About The Conference
The world is facing interconnected crises, including environmental degradation, climate change, social inequality, and economic instability, all of which threaten ecological sustainability and the fulfillment of the right to a clean and healthy environment. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations in 2015, provide a global framework for sustainable and equitable development. However, achieving these goals requires progressive, responsive, and justice-oriented legal systems.
Progressive law plays a vital role in addressing environmental, climate, and energy challenges by moving beyond formal compliance toward substantive justice and sustainability. Climate change driven by fossil fuel dependence and unsustainable land use demands legal frameworks that promote clean energy transitions, strengthen environmental governance, and ensure accountability of both state and non-state actors. At the same time, pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and unequal environmental burdens highlight the urgency of environmental justice and stronger law enforcement.
This conference explores how law can function as an instrument of transformative change integrating environmental protection, social equity, and sustainable economic development. It seeks to foster dialogue and collaboration among governments, scholars, practitioners, and civil society to advance adaptive, equitable, and forward-looking legal solutions for a sustainable future.
